The site, which launched in 2006, has about 420,000 members, of which roughly one-third are sugar daddies and two-thirds are sugar babies (sugar mommies account for less than one percent). While sugar daddies pay $49.95 per month for a premium membership (or $1,200 a month for Diamond Club certification, which requires verification of one’s net worth through tax-return data), as a sugar baby I was able to join for free. I uploaded two photos and listed some general information about myself, and I stated “open, amount negotiable” in the space that asks what you’re looking for.
But I don’t necessarily view sugar dating as the man has all the power, because it’s just as easy for the women to walk away. Unless, of course, financially they can’t. In the past, we’ve interviewed several sugar babies (both men and women) as well as sugar mammas to chat about their experiences with sites like Seeking Arrangement, where men and women get paid to date, and find people willing to pay them. Each interviewee had varying experiences with sugar dating websites, with some sugar babies ready to marry their partners, and a sugar mama considering giving her dates a «gift fund.» Here, we interview a sugar daddy whose experience on Seeking Arrangement made him rethink his dating preferences – and to address his own problematic biases about women of all ages.

There was typically some expectation, on both sides, of a genuine romantic relationship. A rare few wound up falling in love and getting married. Older men on Seeking Arrangement often search for someone to fill the role of the submissive feminine or the damsel in misery. But for many sugar babies, cash is usually a way of quantifying their value, seeing who on the market finds them enticing — and just how a lot. Richard, certainly one of Brian’s sugar daddies, is married to a man who will not have sex with him anymore.
Direct in-person transactions can be uncomfortable and embarrassing. Brian said that, in his experience, most sugar daddies “haven’t reconciled themselves with the idea of having to pay,” because money evokes the idea of prostitution too closely and shatters the idea of romance. Drawing the line between transaction and romance can be difficult.
New York University tops the list with 498 sugar babies, while UCLA comes in at No. 8 with 253, and Harvard University ranks at No. 9 with 231. The University of California at Berkeley ranks at No. 13 with 193, the University of Southern California ranks at No. 15 with 183, and Tulane University ranks at No. 20 with 163 college sugar babies.

- Obviously, this is different for everyone, but have a nickname or go by your screen name if you’re going to be a sugar baby.
- The seminar is hosted by Seeking (formerly Seeking Arrangement), a dating website launched in 2006 to broker relationships in which one person (typically a young woman) provides companionship to another individual (usually an older man) in exchange for material benefits.
